1977 Michel Ciry

A beautiful vintage monograph on French artist Michel Ciry, published in 1977 by Ides et Calendes in Neuchâtel.

Michel Ciry (1919–2018) was a French painter and printmaker whose work was deeply rooted in drawing and engraving. He created his first etching at just sixteen and became particularly known for his technically refined prints, along with paintings and literary illustrations. His work often has a quiet, contemplative quality, with recurring themes of solitude, spirituality, figures, and landscape.

This book is especially interesting because it goes beyond a conventional art monograph. Introduced by French writer Michel Droit, it also includes excerpts from Ciry’s personal journal, offering a more intimate glimpse into the artist and his thoughts. The book is richly illustrated with both color and black-and-white reproductions.

A beautiful choice for anyone interested in lesser-known French artists, twentieth-century printmaking, or vintage European art books.
