1971 Cézanne- The Colour Library of Art Series
Cézanne is one of the most influential painters of the last hundred years. Yet his beginnings were slow and laborious and most of his working life was spent in self-imposed isolation encouraged by only a handful of fellow artists and discerning collectors. Always intensely concerned with the relationship of colour and form, Cézanne's analysis led to a personal precision which sometimes involved years of work on a single canvas.
Returning from Paris to Provence in the late 1870s, he began that series of still- lifes, landscapes and portraits upon which his immense fame rests, many of which are contained in this volume as well as examples from his earlier work. The introduction is by Basil Taylor, with notes to the forty-eight plates by Nicholas Wadley.
