A beautiful vintage Matisse monograph and special publication from XXe Siècle, edited by G. di San Lazzaro and published in New York by Tudor Publishing in 1970.

Originally conceived as a special issue of the influential French art review XXe Siècle, this volume celebrates Henri Matisse through essays, reproductions, and writings by important artists and art historians of the period.

A particularly special feature is the original black-and-white linocut created by Henri Matisse in 1938 for XXe Siècle, reproduced as a bound-in plate. This makes the book especially appealing to collectors of Matisse, modernist art books, and 20th-century illustrated art publications.

The volume includes approximately 126 pages, with numerous black-and-white illustrations and 32 color plates, featuring contributions from Georges Rouault, Jean Cassou, Roger Fry, Jean Leymarie, Herbert Read, and others.
