1948 KLEE | The Faber Gallery
A beautiful first edition devoted to Paul Klee, published by Faber and Faber in 1948 as part of The Faber Gallery.
The introduction and notes are by Herbert Read, one of Britain’s most influential art critics and writers of modern art. Read had written extensively about Klee and had a particular appreciation for his work, making this an especially interesting pairing of artist and writer.
The book contains a selection of Klee’s work reproduced in color and has the distinctive design of the Faber Gallery series. Beneath the original dust jacket is a gorgeous patterned printed paper wrapper, one of my favorite details of these early Faber books.
A charming and collectible vintage Klee book for anyone interested in modern art, early art publishing, or beautifully designed 1940s books.
One of five Faber Gallery titles currently available from this collection: Cézanne, Klee, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Pieter Bruegel.
