1951 PIETER BRUEGEL | The Faber Gallery

A beautiful early first edition devoted to Pieter Bruegel, published by Faber and Faber in 1951 as part of The Faber Gallery.

The introduction and notes are by Trenchard Cox, the British museum director and art historian who wrote extensively on European painting.

Unlike the more familiar modern art titles in the series, this volume looks back to one of the great masters of Northern European painting. Bruegel’s detailed landscapes, village scenes, and observations of everyday life make this a particularly charming addition to the Faber Gallery series.

The original dust jacket is present, with the beautiful patterned printed paper wrapper underneath. The combination of the typography, warm colors, and geometric pattern makes these books especially lovely displayed on a shelf.

A wonderful vintage art book for collectors of Old Masters, Northern Renaissance art, or beautifully designed mid-century books.
